Viz Media Licenses Sweet Blue Flowers, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Queen's Quality Manga
Queen's Quality is sequel to Kyousuke Motomi's QQ Sweeper manga
Anime News Network's Otakon 2016 news coverage sponsored by Yen Press.
Viz Media announced at its Otakon panel on Friday that it has licensed Takako Shimura's Sweet Blue Flowers (Aoi Hana), Akira Himekawa's The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Kyousuke Motomi's Queen's Quality (Queens Quality) manga.
Viz Media will release Sweet Blue Flowers in 2-in-1 omnibus editions with a new translation.
Shimura (Wandering Son) launched the manga in 2004 and ended the series in 2013. Ohta Books published the manga in eight compiled volumes.
Digital Manga, Inc. previously licensed the manga and released the first volume digitally in 2014. The online manga service JManga also began releasing Sweet Blue Flowers before ending service in 2013.
Viz Media describes the story:
Fumi Manjoume, an introverted, bookish teenage girl, is beginning her first year of high school at Matsuoka Girls' High School. She enters the school year with her heart broken by a previous relationship. At about the same time, she reconnects with her best friend from ten years ago, Akira Okudaira, who is now attending Fujigatani Girls' Academy as a first-year high school student. As they reconnect, they both deal with their own respective romantic problems, and help each other get through them.
An anime adaptation premiered in 2009, and Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Right Stuf released the series on DVD in 2012.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is slated for March 2017. Manga creator duo Himekawa launched the Twilight Princess manga in Shogakukan's MangaONE app on February 8, where it serializes every other week. Twilight Princess marks the pair's return to drawing The Legend of Zelda manga after an eight-year hiatus. Shogakukan published the first volume of the manga in Japan on June 24.
Himekawa previously stated in May that Viz would publish the manga in English, but Viz was not able to confirm the license at the time.
Himekawa serialized The Legend of Zelda manga series from 1998 to 2008. The duo drew a prologue to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword game in 2011.
Viz Media will also publish Himekawa's The Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition, Vol. 1: Ocarina of Time Parts 1 & 2 manga in English on November 1. The Legend Of Zelda: Legendary Edition is a new series of two-in-one releases of the pair's The Legend of Zelda manga. Each of the five omnibus volumes will contain two volumes of the original series with new covers, colored artwork, and a larger printing format. Viz Media previously published all 10 volumes in the series in singular volumes.
Viz Media will debut Queen's Quality in 2017. The manga is a sequel to Motomi's earlier QQ Sweeper manga, but according to Viz Media the story can stand alone. Motomi (Dengeki Daisy) began the ongoing series in Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine in July 2015, shortly after ending QQ Sweeper in the same magazine. Shogakukan published the second compiled volume in June.
Viz Media describes the story:
When the secret of the girl who was sealed is unlocked, her monochrome daily life is transformed into a vivid one. Those two from QQ Sweeper will develop in a new battle, a new stage, and a new love!!
Viz Media's Shojo Beat licensed QQ Sweeper and published the third and final compiled volume in June.

Pokémon Go Banned in Iran Due to 'Security Concerns'
Iranian authorities reportedly had conditions for game's launch
BBC News reported on Friday that Iran's official body overseeing online activity, the High Council of Virtual Spaces, has banned the smartphone app Pokémon Go due to "security concerns."
The game has not officially launched in Iran, though Iranians on social media have discussed playing Pokémon Go.
According to a report written by the Islamic Dissemination Organisation's Mehr News Agency and translated by anti-censorship blog Global Voices Advox, Iran's National Foundation for Computer Games (NFCG) told the developers of Pokémon Go that the NFCG would filter the game before it would allow it to launch in Iran. NFCG director Hasan Karimi Ghodosi said there would be two conditions: that the game's server be located in Iran and that locations in the game be coordinated in advance with the NFCG.
Iran is the first country to ban the app, though a Saudi cleric previously claimed a 16-year-old fatwa (religious ruling) against the Pokémon card game should apply to Pokémon Go as well. New York state has banned registered sex offenders from playing the game.
The Pokémon Go app launched in select countries including the United States on July 6, and has since launched in more than 50 countries.

Lawsuit Filed Against Pokémon Go Developers
Plaintiff claims game entices trespassing on private property
New Jersey resident Jeffrey Marder filed a class action lawsuit against Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and Niantic Labs on Monday, claiming that the game Pokémon Go entices players to trespass by placing Pokéstops and gyms on private property without the owners' permission. The lawsuit seeks compensation and a change in the game's practices.
The lawsuit states that, since the game's launch, Marder has seen strangers loitering around his house with their phones, and that "at least five individuals" have knocked on his door to request access to his yard in order to catch Pokémon.
The lawsuit also cites other cases similar to Marder's, as well as the placement of Pokéstops at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The museum is one of several sites that have requested their locations be removed from the game.
Niantic's game update last weekend added safety warnings and advisories against trespassing.

The wraparound jacket band on Shō Hinata's Naruto Konoha Shinden Yukemuri Ninpō-chō novel volume is announcing on Thursday that a television anime adaptation of three Naruto Hiden/Shinden (Hidden Story/True Story) epilogue stories will air this coming winter. The television anime will adapt Takashi Yano's Shikamaru Hiden (Shikamaru's Story, pictured right), Hinata's Konoha Hiden (Konoha's [Hidden] Story, pictured below left), and Shin Towasa's Sasuke Shinden (Sasuke's Story, pictured below right). Viz Media has published Naruto: Kakashi's Story, Naruto: Shikamaru's Story, and Naruto: Sakura's Story.

Shueisha published Sasuke Shinden volume last year, and Viz plans to publish it as Naruto: Sasuke's Story - Sunrise next spring. Shueisha also published the Naruto: Dojunjō Ninden (Naruto: The Tale of the Utterly Purehearted Shinobi) volume last August.

Sword Art Online Gets Live-Action American TV Series
Laeta Kalogridis to write script; production company also plans VR experience
American independent production company Skydance Television announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the global live-action television rights for the Sword Art Online (SAO) franchise from Kadokawa.
The company plans to fast-track the launch of a live-action television series. Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Terminator Genisys) is writing the script and executive producing along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross of Skydance. Kalogridis, who also penned drafts for the live-action Alita: Battle Angel and Ghost in the Shell films, mentioned that she has "for years... been inspired by the inventive and masterful storytelling of the SAO franchise."
Skydance Interactive is also planning a Sword Art Online virtual reality experience after the television series. Skydance Media CEO Ellison said the company is planning "a full-scale and wide-ranging set of live action franchise extensions across our business verticals."
Reki Kawahara's original Sword Art Online light novel series has two television anime adaptations, an anime special, and an upcoming anime film. It has also inspired multiple manga series, games, and a virtual reality demonstration in Japan.
The story revolves around a boy named Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya who enters a virtual-reality, massively multi-player online (MMO) world called "Sword Art Online." There is no escape from this world unless the player clears the game, but "game over" means the death of the player.
Aniplex of America releases the anime in North America and Yen Press publishes the light novels and manga.
